I initially became interested in
meditation in my late teens, experimenting with various
techniques over the next few years.
In my mid-twenties I became interested in energy therapies,
having been introduced to these by family members involved in both
general medicine and complimentary therapy.
My specific areas of interest were
Reiki
and Pranic
Healing. I
became involved in numerous
Reiki
and meditation groups in Western Australia and was thus able to
practice these techniques in depth over the next few years.
At the age of thirty, my interest shifted to tactile therapies,
specifically
Reflexology.
I completed curriculum studies in
Reflexology (Ingham
technique) with renowned reflexologist Bertram Davis of
the Reflexology Academy of Western Australia.
I also recieved instruction in Metamorphosis, a
reflexology/energy technique co-developed by Mr. Davis, and South
American reflexology techniques.Studying reflexology with Mr. Davis
was an encouraging and somewhat cathartic experience for me,
deepening my interest in complimentary therapy.
I then went on to study
Swedish massage,
anatomy and physiology, nutrition and counselling.
These curriculum studies were complimented by additional
learning and experience in the use of energy techniques, such as
Reiki, with Jim and Jaqui Lindsay and Ayesha and David Schaller,
Perth Western Australia.
Jim and Jaqui Lindsay have become well known, albeit reluctantly,
for their “free to all” work, teaching people about meditation,
Reiki and wellbeing.
Ayesha and David Schaller operated a busy clinic providing a range
of complimentary therapies.
I later went on to work with the Schaller’s in their business
Tactile Regeneration, providing soft tissue
therapy to the aged in nursing homes.
During this period I also worked for the
Swan Emergency Accommodation service, providing
accommodation and support for disadvantaged youth.
It was here that I was able to refine my counselling, and
more importantly, active listening skills.
After this period of intense study and practical experience I
relocated to the Northern Territory of Australia, settling in
Darwin. It was here that
I met Meaghan
Morley, the owner of “The Medicine Wheel”, a
complimentary therapy and training clinic in the Rapid Springs area
of Darwin. Meaghan was a
Reflexology, Massage and Aura-Soma instructor and therapist.
Meaghan invited me to join the clinic where I conducted
reflexology, massage and Reiki sessions, and led several meditation
and psychic development groups.
I also provided home visit soft tissue therapy sessions to
advanced cancer out-patients.
I also assisted Meaghan in the management and relocation of
the business. In recent
years, Meaghan has relocated to Apendale, Melbourne, New South Wales
to be nearer her family, where she still conducts reflexology,
massage and aura-soma training courses.
During this time I also completed training and education in the use
of Australian
Bush Flower Essences, with founder
Ian White.
This was a perfect compliment to personal experience I gained
of Bach Flower Remedies while working with Ayesha and David Schaller. It
was at this point that I decided to see more of the world and
embarked on lengthy overseas travel.
It is during this time that I gained certification in Thai
Massage and Reflexology with
Master Tieng Yampho
of the Thai
Traditional Medical Services Society in Bangkok.
With Master Tieng Yampho I studied Traditional Thai massage,
Therapeutic Thai massage, Thai roof (or step) massage and Thai
Reflexology. Since
learning these, I have self studied other similar techniques such as
accupressure, shiatsu, Do In and the Dorn Method.
Now in my fortieth year, my bodywork sessions have become an
ammalgamation of all that I have learned and experienced along the
way. As such I promote
an holistic approach to health and wellbeing in complimentary
therapy and general medicine.
Furthermore, it is my perspective that each individual is
responsible for the conditions within their body, mind and life,
affected by patterns of thought, emotion and behaviour.
In saying this I understand that my role is simply that of an
adjunct to whatever each individual is in the process of realising
and that every individual has the capacity to
change (substitute for heal) themself, should they wish.
